What is the difference between the ILSAT and CILISAT test? |
The two tests are developed by two different organizations but are both government approved tests:
Developed by the Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration, the ILSAT is a formal language test for interested candidates to acquire professional certification as a community interpreter in various social service sectors.
CISOC developed the Community Interpreter Language and Interpreting Skills Assessment Tool (CILISAT) in order to evaluate the language and interpretation proficiencies of people applying for certification as community interpreters. |

Is MCIS offering the ILSAT or CILISAT test at this time? |

Trainees are given 90 days of access to the Interpreter Training Program (12 full weeks). The program typically takes individuals 6 – 8 weeks to complete the course. MCIS recommends dedicating 5 – 10 hours to the course each week.

How does the enrolment process work? |
Step 1: Apply for course here: https://www.mcislanguages.com/programs-training/interpreter-training-application/ Step 2: You will be prompted to make the full payment; if ready, proceed to pay online using your credit card in a secured website. Step 3: Receive instructions and Welcome Email to begin course within 24-48 hours. Step 4: Engagement team will contact you about payment method. Step 5: Once payment is agreed upon, you will be sent your (first) invoice. Step 6: Pay invoice. Step 7: Receive instructions and Welcome Email to begin course within 24-48 hours.

How do I pay my invoice? |
Your invoice should be sent to the email you provided in your application form. Once you open the email, there should be a button on the invoice saying “Pay Invoice.” Please select this button. The button will take you to a secure link where you can input your credit card or debit visa details. |

The online Language Interpreter Training has a flexible start date. Once you receive your Welcome Email (refer to step 5 of the enrolment process) that is the official start date of the three month access course. |

The course is offered as a self-paced program using interactive pre-recorded lessons. There is the option to pause and start lessons at any point, which allows flexible study times. |

Why am I transferred to CITG if my language combination is English <> Mandarin or Cantonese? |
Currently, MCIS are not training individuals whose main language combination includes Mandarin or Cantonese. MCIS is referring all trainees with Mandarin or Cantonese to our training partner, CITG Canada. They share the same training curriculum as MCIS, but provide instructions in both English and Chinese, and address challenges specific to English <> Chinese interpreters.

Will I get a job after taking this training? |
After completing the program and taking the ILSAT or CILISAT, you are encouraged to apply to join MCIS’ roster and other Language Services Provider (LSP) organization’s rosters. However, MCIS cannot accommodate all applicants as we do hire based on recruitment needs. Being a Professional Freelance Interpreter will allow you to apply and potentially work at multiple agencies.
